Humanitarian law

Major conflicts, increasingly violent, claim victims all over the world. Similarly, mutual assistance procedures are developing, sometimes to the advantage of the victims, but in some cases to the detriment of the basic rights of the person being prosecuted.

French criminal procedure allows the prosecution of acts committed abroad if the victim is of French nationality: this is what has been retained in many cases where French nationals are the victims of crimes abroad.

Conversely, crimes committed by French nationals abroad can also be prosecuted in France.

The concepts of international judicial cooperation, European arrest warrants, extradition and mirror investigations must be perfectly familiar to counsel and lawyers who intervene alongside victims or defendants when their rights are not respected.

Having accompanied many victims of terrorist acts, and having fought for the dignity and rights of people prosecuted in countries whose legal standards are not the same as those we apply in Western Europe, I know just how decisive the lawyer's involvement is internationally.
